Graduation Open House Catering: A Planning Guide

Decide Who Is Coming and When

A graduation open house is different from a sit-down dinner. Guests arrive over a span of several hours, stay for a while, and move between the food table, the photo corner, and the conversations in the yard. Before you choose a menu, decide the window for the party and whether there will be a single peak time or a steady flow. A family that expects forty guests from noon to four will plan differently than one with a crowd at two o'clock and a few stragglers later.

Ask the graduate and the parents to list the people they most expect to see, including grandparents, teachers, neighbors, and friends from the team or club. Those names help you estimate the headcount. A common starting point is to count the invitations and assume a portion of them will come, then plan food for the upper end of that estimate. Treat that as a rule of thumb, since weather and schedules change plans.

Choose a Menu That Works for Every Age

Open houses bring together young children, teenagers, parents, and older relatives, so the menu should work at different levels of appetite and taste. Our chicken shawarma is hand-stacked and halal per our menu, and it is a strong main for adults who want something filling. Rice bowls over Lebanese rice and pita wraps are easy for kids to hold and easy for adults to build. Hummus, house-made baba ganoush, and fresh vegetables give everyone something to graze on while they visit.

Include at least one vegetarian option. Our gluten-free vegan falafel is a good choice for guests who avoid meat or gluten, and it is served from the same line as the other dishes. Pita contains gluten, so keep it separate and label it. Halloumi cheese fries and zaatar fries are popular with younger guests and can be set out as a side.

Format and Timing

For an open house, a buffet or a grazing table usually works better than plated service. Guests can take what they want and return for more when they are ready. If you want the food to stay out for several hours, ask us which items hold well at room temperature and which should be refreshed. For large orders we ask for at least 24 to 48 hours notice, so book the order as soon as the date and headcount are firm.

Plan a timeline on the day. Set the food out about thirty minutes before the first guests arrive, and assign one family member to restock and clear the table. If the open house is at a park or a rented hall, check the setup and confirm the location with the person in charge so the food arrives at the right entrance.

Keep the Focus on the Graduate

The best open houses leave the host free to celebrate. Choose a menu you can set up in advance, order enough napkins and cups for a crowd, and ask one helper to handle the table during the busiest hour. If you want full-service with servers, contact us to talk through what that looks like. You can view our catering services and check the menu to start planning.
